The theme was Tenacity: the fiber/textile arts are often viewed as 'craft', of lower value compared to 'high' or fine arts. But textile methods have been used for ages in forms of protest; to question gender roles, expressions of identity, and labor divisions; to provide self-sufficiency for emancipated peoples; to represent and signify loss, pride, culture, and story. The value of craft is immeasurable. A night of Urban Art in the Wild. I invited the folks of Flin Flon to crochet with me. I created a gathering space and provided resources for people to browse or ask questions about; all reflecting different women's groups, through an intersectional lense, that have used fibre/textile arts in their liberation movements or as symbols of resistance or groups that gathered and were over looked for being women.
